There are many industries which require the safe and efficient transportation of quantities of bulky goods. The building trade, food manufacturers, farming and the pharmaceutical industry are just a few examples.
These sectors need to transport everything from logs to fertiliser in convenient and cost-effective containers which will protect their goods from harm and ensure that they get to their intended destination in one piece. One way to do this is through the use of bulk bags.
Bulk bag features
Available in a huge variety of styles and sizes, and coming with a range of special features to suit different needs and uses, bulk bags are the best choice for transporting a wide range of goods.
Most of these bags are used only once, for transporting goods from manufacturer/retailer to customer or client. These are called single trip bags. Containers which are intended for use more than once are called multi-trip bags.
The specifications for each bag depend on the intended use, but they are available to carry weights from as little as 250kg right up to a hefty 2,000kg.
The most basic of bags, which you will have seen on a neighbour’s driveway after the local builder delivered sand or gravel, is an open topped version with a flat base. Open tops allow the bags to be filled and emptied easily and are suitable for goods which do not require protecting from the elements.
The most common style of bulk bag is constructed from four fabric panels, which are joined by seams and sewn together. These bags hold their shape well and are suitable for stacking. They are economical and appropriate for a wide range of uses.
Bags come in a number of shapes, including circular, seamless types (which are ideal for fine materials) and with duffle tops, to accommodate several different filling processes. Duffle tops can be added to any style.
For goods which need extra protection, there are a number of styles available which provide just that. They include food grade bulk bags, which can be used in all food applications. These use approved fabric and liners, which are safe to use with any foodstuffs. Hygienically tested, these styles can also come with windows which can be used to inspect the goods.
For ease of filling, some types of bag come with spouts or chutes constructed into the top. Fill spouts can be manufactured to any size and will help to reduce dust during bag filling. Spouts can also be placed on the bottom of the bulk bag, to enable easy pouring or emptying.
Because the contents of such a bag can be emptied without damaging the bag itself, spout bottom bags are particularly suitable for reuse.
In order to simplify handling and transportation, many bulk containers come with corner loops, which enable them to be lifted up with ease, using the appropriate handling equipment.
Bags can be made to measure, produced to your firm’s unique specifications or even printed with your company logo.
